Are there self defense classes?

Tuesday, July 20, 2021

The Department of Special Services within the Division of Public Safety offers free-of-charge Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) classes with the support of the Trustees’ Council of Penn Women (TCPW). The RAD System offers comprehensive courses which begin with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progress to the basics of hands-on defense training. Special Service also offers a course called ‘S.A.F.E.’(an acronym for Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange). S.A.F.E. is a 2-hour educational awareness, crime-victim prevention program “encompassing Strategies, Techniques, Options, and Prevention” that provides teenaged & adult women with information that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence and introduces them to the physical aspects of self-defense. In addition, Special Services provides gender-neutral self defense classes.
